The Swedish Ministry of Defense has confirmed to Stockholm’s daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter that an extensive cyberattack forced it to shut down its Caxcis IT system, as reported by Reuters on Jan. 25.

The Caxcis network, used for military exercises, was virtually made inoperative for several hours in an attempt to exfiltrate classified information and turn workstations into “zombie computers” for further attacks, a Jan. 26 feature on the SouthFront: Analysis and Intelligence website revealed.

The systems have been shut down as the Defense Ministry attempts to determine the source of the attack and how to establish protection measures against further hacks.
